Fondazione Telecom Italia for Ostello Don Luigi in Liegro

Fondazione Telecom Italia enthusiastically accepted the call from Diocese Caritas from Rome, supporting with 200,000 euro the requalification of Ostello “Don Luigi di Liegro”. The project clearly complies with Fondazione Telecom Italia willingness to concentrate activities and resources on initiatives with a huge impact which can improve people well-being, on the recovery of consistent life standards and on social integration.
Ostello “Don Luigi Di Liegro” was built in 1987 on the initiative of the Caritas director, who it is named after right now, in a building provided by Ferrovie dello Stato, which at the beginning was managed in co-operation with the Rome Municipality. It was thought as a comfortable and welcoming place to host people without a house for short time periods, a place where to restart, welcomed by professionals, social operators and volunteers. Since 1987 more than 9 thousand people were temporarily hosted in the Ostello who, besides immediate assistance – a bed, a shower, a meal, a dress change , met people ready to look for them for a final accommodation. With the passing for time, people learnt that the Ostello was there for them, and they returned every time they needed to find a nice place to stay, to be listened, to be recognised. In 2010, on the occasion of the thirty Rome Diocese Caritas anniversary and the European year of struggle against poverty, the Ostello “Don Luigi Di Liegro” will be refurnished. Important interventions are forecast to enlarge places, improve welcoming, offer socialisation services and spaces for volunteers. A financial commitment accounting for about 4 million euro.
